Literary essays

are written to inform the reader while conveying an underlying message. Unlike opinion pieces, literary essays are not intended to persuade. Literary essays may involve an individual experience and express personal reflections similar to personal essays, but, the focal point is the subject, not the writer. What makes the literary essays stand apart from all other forms of nonfiction is that the writing must demonstrate a convincing command of writing techniques and evince a well-developed sense of language. In other words, they must be well written.
